The below is attributable to Spokesperson Heather Nauert:
Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to discuss the importance of recent developments in the U.S.-Turkish bilateral relationship. The Secretary restated his concerns regarding Turkey’s continued unjust detention of U.S. citizens and locally employed staff, including NASA scientist Serkan Golge. Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu agreed on the need to work together to deescalate the conflict in Syria and support the reinvigoration of the UN-led peace process to achieve a peaceful, lasting solution to the Syrian conflict.
