Treasury Announces Largest North Korean Sanctions Package Targeting 56 Shipping and Trading Companies and Vessels to Further Isolate Rogue Regime

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) today announced the largest North Korea-related sanctions tranche to date, aimed at disrupting North Korean shipping and trading companies and vessels to further isolate the regime and advance the U.S. maximum pressure campaign.

Deputy Secretary Sullivan’s Travel to Haiti Has Been Postponed

Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan will travel to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to meet with Haitian President Jovenel Moise and Caribbean leaders attending the twenty-ninth Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) from February 26-28.

Statement by Heather Nauert, Spokesperson on opening of U.S. Embassy Jerusalem

In May, the United States plans to open a new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.  The opening will coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary.  The Embassy will initially be located in the Arnona neighborhood, in a modern building that now houses consular operations of U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem.  Those consular operations, including American citizen and visa services, will continue at the Arnona facility without interruption, as part of the Embassy.

Ambassador Haley on the Suffering in Eastern Ghouta in Syria

Earlier this morning, Secretary-General Guterres told the Security Council that 400,000 Syrian civilians trapped in eastern Ghouta are living in a “hell on Earth.” That is because attacks by the Assad regime and its backers against these civilians grow worse by the day. In addition to shelling civilian targets like hospitals, the regime is preventing access to humanitarian aid, leaving the people left in eastern Ghouta without food, water, and medicine.

United States and Libya Sign Cultural Property Protection Agreement

Steven Goldstein and Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Under Secretary for Political Affairs Lutfi Almughrabi will sign a landmark bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on cultural property protection on February 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the U.S. Department of State.
