Secretary Pompeo spoke by phone today with Juan Guaidó and congratulated Mr. Guaidó on his recent swearing-in as Venezuela’s new President of the democratically elected National Assembly.
SECRETARY POMPEO: Thank you, Frank. Thank you to Frank Ricciardone. Thank you for your service to America as well, in addition to the duties that you perform here.
I’ve had the good fortune to be a frequent visitor here to Egypt and the Middle East as Secretary of State. In my prior role as CIA director, I was here with some frequency, and I came here too as a member of Congress.

I had the honor of meeting him this morning after his meeting with President Sisi. During the meeting, the deep-rooted strategic bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States were stressed.
SECRETARY POMPEO: Just wanted to say this is a – I hope you all get a chance to see a truly remarkable place where you can see religious liberty, religious freedom at work in this special country. President Sisi clearly made a point by putting this – this largest cathedral in the Middle East – here in this place.

It is truly a testament to the Egyptian people, the capacity to exercise their faith and their freedoms here in these houses of worships, these big, gorgeous, beautiful buildings where the Lord is clearly at work.
Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi today in Cairo. The Secretary reiterated the United States' commitment to the strategic partnership with Egypt and in its fight against our common security threats, including terrorism and the Iranian regime’s malign influence.
The United States condemns Maduro’s illegitimate usurpation of power today following the unfree and unfair elections he imposed on the Venezuelan people on May 20, 2018. The United States remains steadfast in its support of the Venezuelan people and will continue to use the full weight of U.S. economic and diplomatic power to press for the restoration of Venezuelan democracy.
Secretary Michael R. Pompeo met today with Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and congratulated him on his nomination to serve as the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
